So often, part of a young woman's regular preparation for college includes a prescription for artificial birth control with promises of shortened periods, easier cramps, clearer skin, and a "more exciting" social life on campus. But these promises fail to mention some very real and extremely serious side effects:

• increased risk of cancer

• heightened risk of blood clots

• suppression of natural bodily processes (including depressed libido)

• loss of control of one's procreative health and wellbeing,

• and the spiritual and emotional side effects of giving in to the hook-up culture
